Sonshine's Petrie Island Recreational Initiatives and Training
Mandate
The purpose of the SPIRIT Program is to facilitate the implementation of nature-based physical activities and recreational programs at the Petrie Island site, specifically targeting children and youth, including those with special needs, adults, families, seniors and the community at large.
Objective
The main objectives of the SPIRIT Program within the Sonshine Community Ministries framework are stipulated in the following fashion:
To improve the health and well-being of our children, youth , adults, and seniors including those with special needs
To raise the profile of the benefits of physical activity and increase knowledge and awareness of these benefits
To increase the number and variety of physical activities/opportunities that are non-threatening and non-competitive, reducing personal, physical and social barriers to participation in physical activities
To promote healthy lifestyle choices that may lead to lifelong involvement in physical activity
To provide bridged links, through physical activity, to other opportunities within the community, and to establish a strong community network and effective partnerships with other service providers
To effectively and responsibly make use of the Petrie Island site and its natural amenities

The SPIRIT Program is located on Petrie Island, beside the interpretation center.

Pre & Post Camp Care
Need early or late drop-offs or pickups? There is a $10.00 charge for every hour or $5.00 charge for every half hour. We ONLY accept cash for pre and post camp care.
If you plan on early or late drop-offs or pickups, please let us know in advance.
Special Needs
All special needs camps are weekdays from 10am to 5pm, and accomodate all ages. The prices vary per activity and age, please contact us at the office for more information. Eligibility for registration and activities involved will be based on level of need. Contact 834-8187 ext. 29 at our office for more information.

These are half day and/or full day activities available to community groups.

Exploring Swimming Hiking Crafts Games Catching bugs, frogs, turtles and whatever else we can get our hands on

Instructional Programs
Monday through Friday 10am to 5pm
All Ages Prices: Vary Per Activity
Learn to canoe or kayak using our equipment, with Individual or small groups. All Lesson taught by certified instructors. Please contact 834-8187 ex. 29 at our office for more information.
